About our cause
Pilton Youth and Children’s Project proudly celebrated its 27th birthday in 2024. From our humble beginnings as a grassroots charity, we have grown into a vital support system for children, young people, and families in the “small North” area of North West Edinburgh.
Our community, covers Muirhouse, Wester Drylaw, West Pilton, Granton, Royston, and Wardieburn, faces significant social and economic challenges.
Many families we work with struggle with poverty, unemployment, health inequalities, and inadequate housing, issues that have only been exacerbated by the cost of living crisis.
Every week over 400 young people come through our doors. We offer a blend of open access activities and targeted support, helping young people overcome adversity and lead fulfilling lives. Starting from the age of five, we provide early intervention and continuous support through to adulthood. Whether it’s through open youth clubs, one-on-one support, educational trips, or fun holidays, we tailor our approach to meet the unique needs of each young person.
Our Facilities
Our well-maintained centre is equipped with a sports hall, dance and drama studio, kitchen and café area, sensory room, art room, and soft playroom. Beyond recreational activities, we offer practical support such as access to food, grant funding, and referrals to specialist services.

Boy Age 6
"I keep telling my little sister that it won't be long and she can come to PY, it’s all about fun here and I would be lost without my clubs"
Girl Age 11
"I love coming to PY, I get to meet all my friends, we can have a laugh with the workers and they help us make things and cook yummy food"
Young man Age 17
"If I hadn’t being coming to the project I would have been in lots of trouble by now. PYCP helped and encouraged me to stay on at school and help me find a job. If PYCP wasn’t here it wouldn’t be the same"
Mum of 2 from Pilton
"Not only do my children come to the project each week, they also help me out with support completing forms for benefits and give me food from their small food bank when we are struggling. With costs increasing we struggle daily to manage and PY is a place of support for me especially when my mental health is bad"
Business Manager Pilton Youth & Children's Project
"Having worked at PYCP for over 17 years I have seen children start at age five and watched them grow to adulthood.
We have been a constant in children and young people's lives helping them grow to adulthood. We are here to help make happy childhood memories and love it when adults come to visit us and remind us that they used to come to the project and how grateful they are for our support."
Research Unit at Glasgow Caledonian University (McNutly aned McKendrick 2021)
"An appraisal by the Poverty and Inequalities Research Unit at Glasgow Caledonian University concluded that the greatest strength of PYCP is its ability to meet the needs of a wide range of children and young people in the local community, providing a stable community presences that is responsive to the needs at any particular point in time"
